On the left is a Greenwinged Orchid Orchis morio, on the right is what I'm fairly

It's that time of year again, and a cockchafer (also called a May bug) has just emerged from the back lawn and is ready for its first flight.

The Old and the New - a sweet violet and lesser celandine fight their way through last autumn's fallen oak leaves. Normoor Common April 2009.
When the Horse Chestnut buds burst the flower buds and opening leaves look slightly reptilian, perhaps like a pteradactyl warming its wings in the sun. Normoor Common April 2009.
The bird feeders at Durridge House were very popular through the winter as up to 10 goldfinches and 6 siskins at a time argued over the sunflower hearts and niger seed.
